"From intricate scalpel paper-cuts to dramatic speed-painting and mixed-media sculpture, my artwork spans a vast spectrum between precision and free-flowing energy."

Loïs Cordelia is a versatile artist and illustrator, based at her studio in Ipswich, United Kingdom. She works in diverse styles, including energetic speed-painting, intricate scalpel paper-cutting, and mixed media sculpture. She most often creates her art live in public and welcomes the opportunity to talk with people while she works, inspiring and being inspired. She maintains a busy schedule of live art demonstrations, workshops, talks, collaborations, publications, exhibitions, and other events. Her work has been featured in a number of public Wild in Art trails across the UK.

Loïs's paper-cut designs have been published in books, journals and music albums in the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and the United States. Her paper-cuts are a synthesis of swift, energetic sketches and painstakingly precise cuts of a surgical scalpel blade. Each exquisite miniature may take many hours to complete. She specialises in paper-cut book illustrations, creative cartography, and personalised gift commissions (especially for paper anniversaries).

At the opposite end of the scale, Loïs's acrylic speed-paintings feature sweeping strokes and bold colours including iridescent, shimmering and metallic paints. She often chooses unusual canvases, making creative use of the original to contribute to a new artwork. Loïs regularly performs live speed-painting demonstrations in public, including portrait painting from live models.

In May 2015, she co-founded a popular untutored Ipswich life-drawing class. She is also the group facilitator for a monthly Ipswich Interfaith discussion forum on Art and Spirituality.

Loïs creates dramatic sculptures in mixed media, inspired by themes of historic drama, myth and legend, balancing exquisitely detailed hand-carved features with sweeping movement.

Lois took formal art training only as far as A-level (Northgate High School, Ipswich, 2001), when her art teacher Mr Dan Emery encouraged her to begin painting. Since 1999, Lois has worked part-time as an assistant in the west London studio of children's author-illustrator Jan Pienkowski (born 1936), best known for his Meg and Mog series (with co-authors Helen Nicoll and David Walser), pop-up books including Haunted House, and several volumes of fairytale silhouette illustrations.

In 2006, she graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first level Honours degree in Arabic. The effortless beauty of Arabic script remains a major influence in her visual art.
