One of the
beautiful musical instruments on display
at the Museum fuer Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum
of Arts & Crafts), Hamburg. This viola
da gamba (Italian: literally
"violin of the legs", i.e. held
between the legs, instead of on the
shoulder) was made in Hamburg in 1699 by
Joachim Tielke (1641-1719).
