Ras Persy (viewed in medium sunlight, showing the irridescent colours)

Title: Ras Persy
Medium: Acrylic paint on board
Dimensions: 24 x 19 inches (A2)
Date: May 2007
Comments: I was captivated by the depth and intensity of the gaze, and fascinated by the shadows that play across the contours of the face and help to define the features, which reminded me of my previous painting, "Tiger's Eye" (Hilary Swank).

After finishing this painting, I was particularly struck by its appearance in different lighting conditions (compare the thumbnails below). I noticed that, in strong direct sunlight, the irridescent colours suggest an image of the sun emerging from behind cloud cover in the middle of the forehead. This effect was unintentional, but adds another dimension in my own perception of the painting.
