Paper-Cutting Workshops with Lois Cordelia
**Please note that most upcoming workshops and demonstrations have been postponed due to the current Covid-19 lockdown, but Lois is offering a series of free video tutorials and demonstrations via her Youtube Channel. Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe, stay creative.
"So relaxing - I never noticed the time passing!"
Welcome to the magical world of paper-cutting.
Learn about the history of paper-cutting traditions from all over the world, and then create your own paper-cut design, either freestyling (i.e. "doodling" with your scalpel), or using a template for guidance. We will focus on using a scalpel, but other cutting tools (scissors, pattern shears, hole punches, piercing tools, etc will also be available.) Optional themes include festive, floral, butterflies, Halloween, lettering, and so on. Paper-cutting can be a beautiful addition to other art and craft activities, including screen-printing, embroidery, scrap-booking, card making and stencilling.
N.B. Workshop prices vary (e.g. some include a homemade lunch) - please click relevant links to see current prices for each workshop venue - many thanks!

To set our workshop in context, we begin with a richly illustrated 'world tour' of paper-cutting traditions from China and Japan, through Europe, to Mexico. Using a surgical scalpel, Lois will then demonstrate the basic techniques of knife paper-cutting before introducing a range of templates. Optional themes include festive, floral, butterflies, lettering, Halloween, and so on. We will focus on the use of a scalpel, though other cutting tools will also be available to experiment with, including scissors, pattern shears, hole punches, piercing tools, and so on.
Feel free to bring some of your own references, or come along on the day and be inspired by cut-paper motifs, designs and imagery from around the globe. This workshop is ideal for beginners, as for those who have dabbled in paper-cutting and want some guidance. Paper-cutting can be a beautiful addition to other art and craft activities, including screen-printing, embroidery, collage, scrap-booking, card making and stencilling.
