Ipswich-based artist Lois Cordelia (ASGFA) is collaborating with Anna Matthews of the new Ipswich La Tour Cycle Café, to create an unusual cycling themed tree for the Grand Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary le Tower Church (located immediately opposite the café, in Tower Street, Ipswich). Lois has created a dramatic 30 inch foamboard sculpture of an angel performing a BMX biking stunt, leaping over the handlebars, wings outstretched. The sculpture will be on display at the café for the rest of November, and then at the church from 3rd until 9th December 2015. Admission to the Christmas Tree Festival is free, and there will be dozens of beautiful trees on display, decorated by local Ipswich and Suffolk based businesses and freelancers, individuals and families.

Lois will also be coordinating an afternoon of craft activities at the Cycle Café on Friday 20th November, 4 pm till 6 pm, encouraging café visitors to contribute by making their own bicycle or penny farthing sculpture out of festive pipe cleaners! Fun for all ages :-)

The festival runs this year from Wednesday 3rd to Wednesday 10th December, and celebrates the life of our town and its communities. This is the 5th annual tree festival run by St Mary-le-Tower church. Last year the church looked stunning! We had more than 70 real and artificial trees placed by a whole variety of businesses, charities, community groups and individuals. We had over 2,500 visitors to the church. Entrance is free to view the trees and there are various crowd-pulling, ticketed events too.
