Paper-cutting Workshop, Tindalls Colchester, Monday 4th April 2016

February 22, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Loïs Cordelia will lead a paper-cutting workshop at TindallsColchester, on Monday 4th April 2016, demonstrating how to achieve a beautiful paper-cut image, using Swann Morton scalpels.

Paper-cutting is not as difficult or scary as it looks! The results can be meticulously detailed and intricate, or bold and minimalistic. Using a Swann-Morton scalpel and cutting mat, Lois will demonstrate step-by-step the very simple basic techniques of how to create an effective cut-paper design. Feel free to bring some of your own visual references, if you wish, or come along on the day and be inspired by a wide range of cut-paper styles, motifs, designs, patterns and imagery from around the globe. This workshop is perfect for complete beginners, as for those who may have dabbled in paper-cutting and want some guidance. Paper-cutting can be a beautiful addition to other craft activities, including scrap-booking, card making, stencilling, and so on.

"So relaxing - I felt totally immersed in what I was doing".

The workshop runs from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm. Registration is at 9.45am at the front desk downstairs. Morning and afternoon tea and coffee are provided, please bring a packed lunch if you wish or there are several good cafes locally.

This design is the inspiration for Marion Hartmann's German poem, "Blaue Blume" ("Blue Flower", August 2015, copyright Marion Hartmann; reproduced with kind permission from the author):

Blaue Blume

Blaue Blume des Vergessens,
weiter Himmel spiegelt sich,
endlos ferne Meeresflächen,
auch das Eis im Mondenlicht!

Blauer Engel, Deine Flügel,
sind aus Poesie gewoben,
Du umgarnst des Künstlers Hände,
zu Ehren Deines Schöpfers droben.

Nur er vermag Dich festzuhalten,
gebannter Augenblick der Zeit,
aus einem kurzen Stirb und Werde,
entsteht ein Bild der Ewigkeit.

Nur er vermag Dich zu erheben,
im Glanze seiner Seelenkraft,
mit der er aus profanem Leben,
ein wahrhaft Göttliches erschafft!

(Marion Hartmann/ künstlerisches Werk: Lois Cordelia)
