Painting a Coronation Bench for Historic Royal Palaces

To celebrate the coronation year of King Charles III, Historic Royal Palaces invited children across the United Kingdom to submit designs for a coronation bench (or 'throne'), decorated with motifs and imagery of values they consider important to shape the reign of the new monarch.

Fifteen schools' designs were chosen as winners from 1,500 entries. Each winning school was paired up with a professional artist, working in collaboration with global public art producers Wild in Art.

Loïs Cordelia was paired with ten SEN pupils from Foreland Fields School in Ramsgate, Kent. She led a workshop with the children in Summer 2023, creating a scaled down model of the Coronation Bench to help the children to picture their design in three dimensions, and then brought their vision to life on a full size Coronation Bench as authentically as possible.
