Weaving a Giant Food Web for the Food Museum

I've been weaving a giant web out of wire in the woods at the Food Museum in Stowmarket
(formerly the Museum of East Anglian Life).

'We Are All Connected' is a giant 'web of life' sculpture made of wire and food related metal items.

Wire is used to bind everything together and suspend all the elements of the sculpture aloft, including intricately detailed riverside fauna and flora.

Wire represents the interconnectedness of all things.

Metal cutlery and kitchen utensils emphasise the theme of food, in reference both to the food web and the Food Museum.

Eight artists were commissioned to create riverside sculptures for the new trail, which launched on 22nd June 2022 and remains on permanent display at the Food Museum, celebrating the rich biodiversity of the surrounding riverland area.

My web of life is populated with more than a dozen animals and plants, each one sculpted out of the most unlikely things!

How many will you spot?

A hedgehog made of forks and a gravy boat.
A butterfly made of a butter knife, tongs and spoons.
A great crested newt made of two toast racks.
Acorns of egg cups.
Hops of spoons.
Willow leaves of fish knives.
A stag beetle made of a ladle.
A bream made of chicken wire.
A carp made of a fish platter, toast rack and fish slices.
A kingfisher made of bowl strainers and table knives, with a whisk caught in its beak.
An  oxlip made of 50 teaspoons.
Grain made of long-handled teaspoons.
An otter made of kitchen utensil holders, fish slices and a sardine tin.
A bat made of sphaghetti tongs, spoons and a soup ladle.
A trio of field mushrooms made of colanders and bird feeders.
An owl made of two bird feeders, a mini butter knife, bowl strainers and a fish slice.
A lizard made of chicken wire.
A bee made of an ice cream scoop, gravy boat, grapefruit spoons for the eyes, tea diffusers for pollen sacs, and a wine bottle rack for the honeycomb.
And of course a spider, made of a spider sieve skimmer, a lemon juicer and sugar tongs.

Through food, through energy, through the web of life, we are all connected.
